Bloemfontein will host the Currie Cup final as well as the SARU u/21 Championship final on Saturday 05 September 2019.
The SARU u/21 Championship final between the Vodacom Blue Bulls and DHL Western Province will take place at 13h30 with the Currie Cup final between Toyota Free State Cheetahs and Xerox Golden Lions to take place at 17h00.
New champions will be crowned in both competitions. 2018 champions the Sharks nor the Western Province who played in the final of 2018 qualified for the 2019 finals in the Currie Cup competition. Saturday’s final will mark the Toyota Free State Cheetahs’ first appearance in the final since 2016, while the Xerox Golden Lions will have a shot at the title for the first time since 2015.
The Vodacom Blue Bulls u/21 team was beaten in the final in 2018 with 58-24 by the Xerox Golden Lions and return as the favourites on Saturday.
The Xerox Golden Lions booked their place in the top two in the first semi-final as they held on in a hard-fought clash against a spirited Tafel Lager Griquas outfit in Johannesburg for a 34-19 victory, while a late charge by log-leaders, the Toyota Free State Cheetahs, saw them overturn a 20-11 halftime deficit against the Cell C Sharks for a 51-30 victory.
The Vodacom Blue Bulls u/21 team who dominated the competition this year hang on desperately (42-41) in the last few minutes against Cell C Sharks who just ran out of time to cause the biggest upset in the competition this year. The DHL Western Province u/21 who is seemingly peaking at the right time had an easy semi-final against the Cheetahs and secured their spot in the final with a 52-10 win.
