The Golden Lions secured their first Currie Cup final since 2015 beating Griquas after a close-fought battle with 34-19 at Emirates Airline Park.

As expected, the Griquas tried to physically intimidate the Golden Lions while the Golden Lions looked to spread the ball wide whenever the opportunity presented itself. The Lions only lead 21-13 at half time having only themselves to blame after refusing four sitter penalties and Stean Pienaar losing the ball going over the try line.

The second half was a physical affair, with the Griquas scoring the first points in the second half after 18 minutes via a converted penalty. The rest of the second half the teams traded penalties with the referee's whistle needing water every now and then.

The Golden Lions scored the first try of the second half with three minutes remaining on the clock to deservedly win 34-19.

Scorers:
Golden Lions: Tries: Madosh Tambwe, Stean Pienaar, Hacjivah Dayimani, Marnus Schoeman. Conversions: Shaun Reynolds (4). Penalties: Shaun Reynolds (2)
Griquas: Tries: Chris Smit Conversions: George Whitehead (1) Penalties: George Whitehead (4)
